overview of the service
NECD provides a 'State of the Art' service comprised of unique elements for members and non-members alike.
Free Search
Any member of the public, or any crime prevention organisation worldwide, can check NECD ID's or identifying alphanumeric marks quickly using the Internet, Smartphone applications or via SMS text messaging. With such a free service, querying whether an item is stolen means that tracing stolen items is possible nationally and even internationally.
Buying with confidence
Check the origin of your intended equestrian purchase and if in doubt, check any identifying marks in the NECD search field on www.necd.org.uk or send a SMS text to NECD to receive an instant SMS reply. If the item is stolen, you can provide details to assist the authorities in their efforts to recover the property. Ensure you obtain a receipt for your purchase and register the new item on NECD to get it protected. You will then have the peace of mind that if your item is stolen, you can prove ownership both for the Police and Insurance companies. NECD provides a printable page for each item registered.
Unique ID's and Equestrian Estate
NECD members can register ALL of their valuable equestrian items in one place online. With their paid subscription, members can register and protect their entire equestrian estate. For every item you register NECD will generate a unique NECD ID to enable us to associate that item with anything that affects it. In instances where your item has no unique identifying marks, the NECD ID can become the identifying mark.
The item registration process combines any existing identifying alpha numeric marks together with photographs. For horses, existing identifying marks may include Freezemarks and microchips which will each provide a unique alphanumeric number. The passport number can be registered but please be aware that Passports can be tampered with.
Other items which can be registered and protected may include any of all of the following:
- Saddles
- Any type of tack
- Horse transport vehicles, eg Trailer or Lorry
- Horse rugs
- Horse carriages
- Yard and pasture maintenance vehicles and machinery
NECD incorporates and recognises any identifying marks (serial numbers, letters, postcodes, chassis numbers, horse passports, freezemarks, microchips) enabling anyone to search on any of these to determine whether an item is stolen or not. In the case of an item which does not have an existing identifying mark, or where the existing mark is not unique to the item, NECD can advise you on how to make your existing number unique or generate a unique NECD ID which can be imprinted on the item. Saddles are the most commonly stolen items, and those without an existing mark are easily stolen. NECD will generate a unique ID which can be printed out and taken to your nearest equestrian retailer or saddler who will stamp this number onto your saddle sweat flap.
NECD tracks complete item ownership history, from the date of registration in the NECD system, enabling us to be the first 'DVLA' of equestrian estate. Sold items are removed from member accounts and ownership transfer is automated so your equestrian estate will always be current. Note you cannot transfer ownership of an item, or make police and insurance reports via NECD without a unique ID.
Advanced Crime Reporting Communications
Members benefit from unique, valuable and real time services communicated by:
- Email (Email crime alerts including photographic images and confirmation of member requests eg registration of new items)
- SMS (pure text alerts)
- 'My messages' Inbox
- NECD ticker tape providing real time news
NECD communication benefits mean that members have equestrian community awareness and the power to act quickly to send and receive information in real time. Members can generate an unlimited number of local criminal activity reports online which are then issued by the NECD service via SMS and email either locally or nationally.
