Proof of Ownership in the Case of Stolen Property Recovery
One of the cruelties of Equestrian Crime is that when your horse, tack or equipment is recovered, there may be no way for the Police to return them to you. Even where owners have marked their property, and registered the items with one of the existing Equestrian databases, identification of an item as stolen can be a very time consuming task. As a result, there are warehouses all over the country full of recovered saddles, tack and equipment. The Police invite equestrians to view these in the hope of reuniting items with owners, however, even if someone spots their stolen property, unless they can prove ownership with a receipt it cannot be returned to them.
After careful research and collaboration with Constabularies all across Britain, NECD has developed services that meet both the needs of the Police and the Equestrian to solve this problem. The Police can now track any item of a member's equestrian estate which is stolen, on a nationwide basis, using their access to the NECD database. Any NECD member, can now provide legally accepted proof of ownership based on their inventory records. NECD tracks the complete life of, and generates a certificate for every valuable item of equestrian estate registered by a member and this can be used proof of ownership.
Buying with Confidence
When you consider purchasing Equestrian Items on the secondary market, make sure you know the origin of your intended equestrian purchase. If you have any doubts about the item, you can check any identifying marks with use the NECD Checkit or Textit services. Using your web browser, or Smartphone, go to www.necd.org.uk and enter the mark you found. You can also check marks by sending a SMS text to NECD and receive an instant SMS reply.
If the item is not registered, you can make further enquiries. If the item is reported stolen, you can report the sighting with a simple click of a button, and help the Police return the property to its rightful owners.
Ensure you obtain a receipt for your purchase and register the new item on NECD to get it protected. You now have the peace of mind that if your item is stolen, you can prove ownership both for the Police and Insurance companies. NECD can generate a certificate for each item registered.
